Overall Grade: C+ (Mitch A.)

Overall, the Kush get a C+ as a grade. They did perform well in nearly every category, but because they had large Egyptian influence they did not make a lasting impact in History. They operated a very successful trading industry and they did last a very long time as an empire, however they did not have enough of a plan to operate after another empire opened up a successful trading industry. The Kush empire gets a slightly above average grade for a pretty successful empire.

  1. I agree with the grades you paired with all of the “GREATS." Something I would change though is I would make the overall grade a B-. I would have given them a B- because I felt like that was the average of all of the grades. Also they sounded like a pretty successful empire. I think the society part of the blog should be a little longer with more details. I like that you added the videos and pictures to show more information about your empire.

  2. I agree with all the grades you chose to represent each of the "GREATS," except for Art and Architecture. I think you might have been a little too generous in grading them with a B-. From the information I read about their art and architecture, I believe they deserve a C, C-, or at least a C+. First of all, I would like to correct you in the fact that when you talked about the people using iron tools to build their sandstone walls, that should be placed under "Technology". The tools are not what make the art and architecture, it is the final product that is born after the use and help of tools. Also, I don't think enough information was included about the walls made. You talked about how the use of sandstone walls in the city was very creative, but as a person having never learned about this empire, I can't help but ask "why?" What is so creative and important about sandstone walls? Is it how they were made? Granted, I'm SURE they were very creative, but you did not mention how or why. The same goes for the red brick walls and yellow and blue tiles. Architecture like those were quite advanced for their time I am sure. (I researched the Great Zimbabwe and our great advancement was making stone walls without mortar! So you are more advanced than us.) I wish you would have included more about the significance of these features as to give more meaning and significance to the Kush Empire overall. Wonderful blog, though! Everything is very neat, organized, and easy to find. GOOD JOB!

  3. Well, I do understand about the use of iron tools to build the sandstone walls now. Also, the Kushite temples were built with red fired-bricks and stones to help it go through times in nature. Temple columns were also shaped in the head of gods and the lotus flower, which was basically the "national flower of Kush", symbolizing the territory of the Kush Empire. That was a reason why their architecture was so creative because they could shape material into beautiful things that symbolize their empire. Also, the wood-carved throne of Tutankhamun is decorated with silver and gold, multicolored glass, and precious stones. It is also decorated with the stalks of papyrus and the lily bound together to symbolize the "Union of the Two Territories," which were the upper and lower Egypt. I apologize for not including this information on my blog!! Oh and thank you for the asking the question "why?"! :) I hope I answered your question!

  4. The grades that you gave all the GREATS I feel are acceptable. The blog was put together nicely and pretty easy to follow. I do disagre with the overal grade though. The Kush empire deserved at least a B- maybey a B. What they did may have been simaler to the egypitians but it was succesful for some time. The video made much of this a lot easier to get for someone like me who is not a fan of reading. Watching a video explaining the Kush empire really helped.

  5. Overall I feel like you all did a good job grading the GREATS. You guys talked about them copying the Egyptians, Did they improve any of the ideas? Or was it the exact same?

  7. Your welcome Ally!! Thanks for asking the question! I guess I really needed to put that information out there! :) And Emily, it was pretty much the same ideas as the Egyptians. Yet with the pyramids, they didnt build them as well as the Egyptians because as you can see in the picture, it isn't very put together.
